A bandanna is about the most massively useful thing a motorcyclist can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can tie it around your neck for warmth as you bound across cold winter plains; you can dab away your sweat with it in the brilliant light and heat of the desert; you can shield your eyes with it to catch that much-needed daytime nap; wet it for use in hand-to-hand combat; wrap it around your head to ward of noxious fumes; you can wave your bandanna in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course you can blow your nose it in if it still seems to be clean enough. More importantly, a bandanna has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a citizen (citizen: non-motorcyclist) discovers that a motorcyclist has his or her bandanna with him, he will automatically assume that they are clearly a man to be reckoned with. Hence a phrase that has passed into motorcyclist slang, as in "Hey, you sass that hoopy Steve McQueen? There's a frood who really knows where his bandanna is."
Bandana or Bandanna? A bandana is a large, usually colorful, kerchief. Usually worn on the head or around the neck. A bandanna is frequently printed in a paisley pattern. So basically, either spelling is pretty much fine!
