THE SALT GHOST: RETURN OF THE NITRO EXPRESS
Lowbrow Customs is proud that we made this documentary back in 2010. The Salt Ghost: Return of the Nitro Express is an hour long documentary shows our path of discovery of the history of this bike, it's builder, it's over two decades of El Mirage and Bonneville Salt Flats race history, and it's return to glory on the Salt.
"In the 1960s and 1970s, legions of speed freaks blasted down the drag strips and dry lakes of Southern California on their two-wheeled tickets to thrills. Legions more campaigned machines at the famed Bonneville Salt Flats during the same time. What happened to these motorcycles?
The vast majority of them have disappeared into the mists of time, disassembled and used for restoring soulless stockers or simply forgotten in old sheds and barns. Once in awhile one turns up and gets sold to a museum or carefully displayed in some motorcycle shop owner’s office. Rarely if ever again do these machines return to their beloved battleground: the Dry Lake or Salt Flat.

The Return of the Nitro Express is the story of one bike that did not get filed away and retired. Thanks to two present-day, cowboy speed junkies who eschew modern technology and dance with dangerous old motorcycles, the Salt Ghost will be reborn; or will it? Watch as Wes and Tyler bring the Nitro Express back to where it all began, to the dry and hot Bonneville Salt Flats where legends are born in blood, sweat and gears!"
VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH THE LATE FRITZ KOTT
This is the full, uncut interview with Fritz Kott during the filming of The Salt Ghost: Return of the Nitro Express film in 2011. Never before seen in it's entirety, Fritz talks about his racing at Bonneville Speed Week starting in 1971, how things were versus how they are now, and his work on his own motorcycles as well as with Theo Ozen, builder of the Salt Ghost.
Wes White of Four Aces Cycle and Tyler Malinky of Lowbrow Customs interviewed Fritz during their research to find out who originally built and raced the vintage Triumph.
The Bonneville Salt Flats, El Mirage, nitro-burning and turbo charged vintage Triumph motorcycles, fast Harley-Davidsons, it is all discussed in this conversation that we are happy to be able to share.
VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH THE LATE JULIAN DUVAL DOTY
Back in 2010 we took The Salt Ghost to El Mirage dry lakebed in California to have the SCTA tech inspectors give it a look over. We aimed to race the veteran race bike at Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
The Salt Ghost had raced at El Mirage and Bonneville many times from the 1960's through the early 1980's, however, we had to ensure we could get it ready and up to current safety requirements.
During this tech inspection process we met Julian Duval Doty, who was sitting under the shade of the tech trailer. We got to speaking with him and filmed this interview. A small amount was used in the Salt Ghost: Return of the Nitro Express film, but when we came across this uncut footage recently we decided to share it with the world, and help remember Doty, who was a friend to many people. Enjoy.
