Your motorcycle battery box has one job…hold your battery. Seems pretty simple. Motorcycle battery boxes can be made from aluminum, steel, or plastic and come in a variety of sizes. Many custom builders struggle to find the perfect battery placement. You do not want to mount your battery by a source of heat, like your engine or exhaust, and simply put, batteries are not very appealing to look at.

Disadvantage of Old Motorcycle Battery

A square plastic aftermarket motorcycle battery box in the middle of your bike’s beautiful curves is like putting a round peg in a square hole. It just doesn’t look very good. Coming up with a creative way to hold the battery and make it look good is a struggle. In recent years, the advancement of battery technology has made this a little bit easier than in the past.

Back in the day, conventional motorcycle batteries were the only choice you had. The issue was conventional batteries tend to leak. They need to be positioned vertically and even then; they would vent. This would lead to a trail of acid drip going down the frame of your bike.

AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) Batteries

Later AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries came to market. These batteries are sealed and do not have to be mounted vertically. This gives you many more options when mounting the battery. The downside to AGM batteries is the weight. Just like conventional lead-acid batteries, they are heavy. If you are mounting something heavy to your motorcycle, it is best to keep it low in the frame. This will help with stability and control of the bike.
