Motorcycle Manuals taught you a lesson of the years
Mechanics have used motorcycle manuals for years to find the information needed to complete a job. Often, a seasoned mechanic will rely on their own knowledge to do a job. Years of experience combined with countless hours wrenching on bikes all come together when a mechanic goes into a garage.
The manuals are there when things start to go south or if you need to verify something specific before you proceed to the next step. Sometimes it can be something simple like a torque setting for a motorcycle part that is not often removed, or maybe a valve setting so that things run smoothly.
When you are working on a bike there are so many things you learn and after some time those things become second nature. You do things a certain way because experience has taught you a lesson of the years.
Careful for the Instruction Manuals You Found on the Internet
These days a lot of information can be found on the internet. YouTube and other video platforms allow people to post videos out there that can be helpful at times when you are trying to do custom or prepare something you are not familiar with. Forums are also a great place to find information for a motorcycle problem you may have.
All this information is great, but there is a downside. A good portion of the information being passed along as truth, is often not. Much of the information is often wrong, and sometimes it can actually cause harm to your motorcycle.
Compare Haynes and Clymer Motorcycle Manual
-
Haynes manuals for motorcycles are usually somewhat abbreviated. They use a lot of images to help explain a specific job, but a lot of the very detailed information you might find in an OEM manual has been removed.
-
A Clymer motorcycle manual tends to be more detailed. There are fewer images and more text. Sometimes this gives an inexperienced mechanic a little more information they may need to complete the job.
