How important is the Motorcycle Skid Plates? 

Motorcycle skid plates not only look cool, but they are also functional. If you have ever ridden off-road you are familiar with what can happen to the lower frame rails of your motorcycle. Aluminum has been the material of choice for many years. Aluminum aftermarket skid plates are durable and easy to produce. 

Recently, Nylon reinforced ABS materials have been used to create some of the motorcycle skid plates that are sold in the off-road market. These off-road motorcycle skid plates are light weight and strong. They offer excellent protection for the frame and cases of the motorcycle. 

For the street world, aluminum aftermarket skid plates are still the standard. They offer more than ample protection for street use, and they look great. 

Mounting a Motorbike Skid Plate

Mounting a motorcycle skid plate is pretty simple. With some basic motorcycle tools you can have your aftermarket skid plate mounted in no time. 

The plate rest on the bottom of the frame rails and is held in place by 3 or 4 bolt-on brackets that clamp around or across the frame rails. This gives a really secure mounting position and allows the motorcycle skid plate to stay in place in case of an impact.
