Required only minor sanding with 400 grit mesh. I did the tank liner stuff before I even sanded it. Self etch primer, high fill primer, silver, metallic candy base, candy paint, clear coat. It looks incredible. There were a few real minor wrinkles in a couple of areas, but if you're going to paint this, you're going to use a sandable primer, and they were minor enough for that to completely take care of it. It's well made, and fit my 1999 XL1200S really well. Looks great. I'd buy it again, for sure.
