I've ridden two of these down to slick and two of the Bates Baja 100. I prefer the Firestone. It's smoother on asphalt, offers slightly more clearance to the rear fender, and the sidewall is less aggressive, so it is more stable in corners at the end of its life. Neither of them last all that long vs a modern road tire, but they look cool and either one will handle gnarly Forest Service roads out to your favorite camp spot. Major disadvantage of this tire is that it requires a tube, which can complicate roadside repairs. Bates is probably more hardcore on the dirt, but I'd say Firestone is better on asphalt and you can just barely wring more miles out of it.
