      Motorcycle Spark Plug Wires FAQ

What happens if I use the wrong type of spark plug wire?
Using the wrong wire can cause real problems. If you use copper core wires with a modern electronic ignition, the Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) they produce can interfere with your ignition's brain, causing poor performance or misfires. Conversely, using suppressor core wires on a vintage magneto ignition can result in a weaker spark, making the bike harder to start and run properly.
How do I know if I need 7mm or 8mm wires?
The size (7mm vs. 8mm) generally corresponds to the core type (copper vs. suppressor). The most important factor is choosing the correct core type for your ignition. If you have points or a magneto, choose 7mm copper core. If you have any type of electronic ignition, choose 8mm suppressor core.
Is making my own spark plug wires difficult?
Not at all! It's a very straightforward process. A universal spark plug wire kit includes the wire, terminals, and boots. You simply route the wire, cut it to the perfect length, strip a small amount of insulation, and crimp the terminal on. It's a skill that allows for a perfectly clean, custom fit every time.
