Motorcycle Cables FAQ
How do I measure for the correct custom cable length?
The best way is to use a piece of string or a non-stretchy wire. Run it from your lever perch, following the path you want the cable to take, down to the connection point on the engine or carburetor. Then, turn your handlebars fully to the left and right stops. The string should be long enough to not bind or get tight in either direction. That measurement is the final housing length you need.
What’s the difference between a standard vinyl and a braided stainless steel cable?
Standard black vinyl cables provide a classic, OEM look and are very durable and cost-effective. Braided stainless steel cables offer a custom, high-performance look, are more resistant to abrasion, and can sometimes provide a slightly smoother feel. The choice is primarily about aesthetics and budget.
Are throttle and clutch cables universal?
No, they are highly specific. The fittings on each end (the "barrel" or "ball") and the amount of "travel" (how much the inner wire pulls out of the housing) are designed for specific makes, models, and years. Always use our bike filter or check the product description to ensure you are buying the correct cable for your exact motorcycle.
