Biltwell Lane Splitter Full Face Motorcycle Helmet Review

We received some Lane Splitters from Biltwell prior to the official release and decided to take one for a test ride. “Hey, this is Tyler with Lowbrow Customs, here to give you guys a first look at my ride with the Biltwell Lane Splitter Helmet. The Lane Splitter is new here in Fall 2016. We've got a limited amount of these on hand early to try out from our friends at Biltwell. I'm going to hop on my Shovelhead chopper and go for a spin after lunch. I'm going to take you guys along for the ride and then fill you in with my thoughts on the helmet. I barely even looked at this thing. I'm going to throw it on and ride and see what we think.

All right, I'm back from my first ride with the Biltwell Lane Splitter helmet. I'd have to say I'm pretty happy with the helmet. In my ride, a quick jaunt around the neighborhood turned into a two-hour ride, blowing my afternoon though I can't really complain because I was way more fun than any work I had to do. Biltwell Lane Splitter, the first thing I noticed before I even hit the main road out here was that the venting is killer. I was just getting a steady stream of cool air in through these front vents and with the rear vent here you just get a nice steady flow of air through there.

There's one of those few vents here in the front but it is more than ample and breathes better than any other full face helmet I've got. The next thing I noticed was the I port which as you can see is very large and made for great visibility on highways, in city traffic just in general. It was not obstructed at all and a nice clear flip up shield couldn't have been better. The closure on the helmet, there's a hole in the shield here and a gobble pin and it's pretty simple. It's all natural you do it once or twice and then you get the feel for it.

I didn't even have to think when opening and closing the shield. When I was riding from slower city traffic, getting up into higher speeds wearing sunglasses, we didn't want to shield down. I didn't have to think about closing it. The helmet itself is very comfortable, very lightweight, soft padding. There's a fleece lining on the inside of the strap protectors here. Never had any irritation or anything like that. The couple hours I was riding I never felt like I wanted to take the helmet off like I've felt with some other helmets.

Another nice feature is the webbing here under the chin. That webbing with a little Biltwell bar and shield on there. That protects the chin area of the helmet, keeps wind from jamming up there when you're on the highway trying to lift your helmet on. That reduces wind noise, keeps you from having to pull your helmet down and keep settling it in place. That's just a nice small feature, but it's the details that count.

I'd have to say overall I'm very pleased with Biltwell Lane Splitter. In addition to gobs of style, it also performs well and I look forward to wearing this regularly as I get out on my bike. In fact, I'm going to take this one and wear it on my ride home today and keep it in my garage. Check these out and plenty more at Lowbrow Customs. "So I got a flat silver Biltwell Lane Splitter Helmet a couple days ago. I haven't really had a chance to ride with it yet but my initial impressions of it are pretty good. It seems to fit really well, I got a medium which I typically wear in Biltwell stuff. The fit seems a tad bit looser than my medium Gringo S. The helmet has some cool features like an under chin gator, which is really nice and completely unexpected. It also accepts the Sena Bluetooth unit very well which was nice add.

I dig the styling of the helmet and if I had to choose between a Biltwell Lane Splitter or a Simpson Helmet I would probably pick the Lane Splitter because of it's looks. It just has a little more styling put into it. "

Josh Gilbow Was Impressed With Lane Splitter Helmet’s Variety of Features

"I received the Biltwell Lane Splitter helmet size large in white with a clear face shield about a week ago. In that time I have worn it approximately 500 miles during normal commutes. In that time my overall feelings on it would be it is the most feature rich helmet Biltwell has ever produced. Coming from a company who has made a name on bare bones simple ic helmets. The Lane Splitter is the first attempt at a more modern helmet. The features on the Lane Splitter that I'm referring to are the addition of intake and exhaust vents on the helmet. Now there aren't isn’t as many intake vents as you would find on most modern helmets but what Biltwell has done is blend between modern comfort and ic lines. While riding you do get moderate airflow as far as I can tell in the muggy New Jersey August heat. If you are looking for the most breathable helmet this won't be for you but if you're looking for a style that goes against the standard shape of most modern helmets I would recommend it.

Being that I am 6'1" 190 pounds with a 7-3/4" head I chose a large and usually do with all the other helmets I own or have tried on. The Lane Splitter is true to size and comfortable. It feels light on the head and in high winds doesn't seem to get much wind buffering.

The helmet came in a clean high gloss white color with a clear shield. The shield has a lip so you can adjust with gloves on no problem and a brass catch to prevent the visor from flipping up when fully closed. The shield has a ratchet position that can be secured in 3 different positions until it's completely open. There also is a thin plastic film over the shield that seems like a Moto goggle tear off that would take a lot of scratches before being able to tear it off preventing the need to replace your shield as often. The interior padding is soft and there is plenty of room to add a headset. I added a Sena headset to mine and it's pretty quiet on the road allowing good use of the Sena. There is also a chin cover that is a nice add on to keep more wind and noise out. Removing the shield is two Phillips head screws and takes about 20 seconds but does require a screwdriver. The Lane Splitter has a standard loop closure chin strap with an audio all snap on the end to tuck the excess strap away, preventing it from flapping around slapping your Adam's apple ( if you have one).

People like to have a helmet that keeps with the style of their there bike. If I was to pick a style to suit this helmet it would probably be modern American bikes such as the late model sportsters to the FXR / Dyna crowd. It doesn't have the traditional old ic lines that you would find on the Biltwell 3/4 helmets or the simplicity of their there full faced gringo. But like most things that seem to come from Biltwell they continue to innovate and grow with the input from their customers."
