British Columbia Motorcycle Road Trip - A Brilliant Idea!
This all started a little while back when one of our good friends, Lyndsey Westfall from Fast Times Magazine asked us if we had ever thought about a motorcycle ride trip itinerary on Route 16; One of the most beautiful stretches of roads in Northern British Columbia.
In all honesty, when thinking of places to ride, we had never thought of exploring Northern BC. Lyndsey immediately sent over a few photographs and a short video for us to check out. After looking at only two photos, we knew we had to get up there and crush some miles on those insane mountain roads.
We had no idea how breathtaking this area of the world could be, and the number of amazing people we would meet on our motorcycle trip. With that being said, we are really stoked to share this adventure with all of you in this mini-series we like to call Route 16 Ramble.

With over 600 miles of riding from Prince George to the Pacific coast of Prince Rupert, Mikey and his wife Kat along with their close friends Jodi and Chris Drew from Spoke & Dagger Co. take on this wild journey into the unknown.
All four of them went into this blind and not knowing really what to expect; But sometimes that's the beauty of traveling. Part of the adventure is throwing yourself out of your comfort zone, into the wind, and leaving things up to fate.
And who knows you just might find some amazing people, culture, friendships, or even learn something new about yourself along the way. So, follow along with this 4 part series and see what these crazy kids get up to and take in all that Route 16 has to offer.
Episode 1 - Prince George:
Four riders, two couples, arrive in Prince George and get ready to embark on an adventure they had no idea what to expect from. Meet the crew and watch as they start this fun filled motorcycle trip on Route 16, packed with some of the most epic views, roads, nature, and experiences British Columbia has to offer. The gang hits up an ancient rainforest, yeah thats right a rainforest in Canada! We learn what the Canadians call a highway, and what else is in store for this band of misfits.

Route 16 Exceptional for Motorcycle Adventure Riding
Route 16 begins in Mount Robson, British Columbia (at the Alberta border) and continues along the Yellowhead highway ending in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada, spanning over 621 miles of beautiful roads filled with many side trips and attractions along the way. The route is exceptional for motorcycle adventure riding, weaving through forests, mountains, and alpine meadows and winds alongside glacial-green rivers and waterfalls. The communities along the route flourish in nature, offering rich cultural history and true northern hospitality.

Episode 2 - Lakes Districts to Smithers:
From the Lake Districts to Smithers the gang embarks on discovering how many lakes there really are in Northern British Columbia curtesy of an amazing vintage 1960's float plane. Un easy stomachs aside the views were breathtaking and the ride was surely one never to forget. The crew learns more about the wrenching side of vintage float planes and how similar it is working on them and Harleys.
"Dirt bikes... They are not Harleys... They are not street bikes, they will kill you. But they are probably the most fun you can have on two wheels!" - Chris Drew. Keeping the rubber side down on dirt bikes in Telkwa, BC proves harder for a few with logs in the way, cow pies, and being new to it in general. But a few wheelies, some jumps and gas fumes in the air turns into a fun filled day in the dirt. Jodi also has some "Ah, ha" moments as she overcomes some fears thanks to her first dirt biking experience.
The red Dyna gives Chris some issues so the gang heads to Smithers to stop by Smoking Sam's motorcycle shop Eye Candy Customs for a new rear tire, some good food and some new found friendships. Getting a new tire no where near as exciting as, giving the old tire a proper send off, burn it down! Two wheels just brings people closer together and the crew relate hard to Smoking Sam and his wife's dynamic and how great their love is for each other and their business.

Episode 3 - Hazelton, Nass Valley to Gingolx
Mikey, Kat, Jodi and Chris ride to Hazleton to meet up with The Crocodile Dundee of Canada, Rob Bryce for some good old jet boating fun. Rob gives one hell of a tour to the crew, showing off some of the most beautiful views from the Skeena River, an abandoned air strip that used to be used for drag racing and even a ghost town called Dorreen.
First there was an ancient rainforest, now Volcanos!? What in the hell is going on, Northern BC literally has every terrain. The two couples fly through Nass Valley and witness what Kat called another planet. Views of lava rock beds that stretch for miles and miles. With big open skies complimented by ice capped mountains, the gang manages to dodge some rain fall in the distance.
Calvin McNeil a master wood carver of the Nisga Tribe walks the two couples through some of his teachings, methods, life stories and shares an in depth look at some of his life long pieces of art. A truly humbling and brilliant moment, learning straight from the first nations was something never to forget. The crew reflected deeply with Calvin and related their lives with the stories and wisdom he shared.
Whats the Great North of British Columbia with out some amazing Sea Food!? The group takes a detour off of route 16 and heads to a small village called Gingolx to get some of the best Halibut cooked in the land by Bonnie Moore. "You See Food, You Eat It" isn't just a clever name for Bonnie's restaurant, its exactly what they do there! The guys get daring and try some rare delicacies after already indulging in all they thought Bonnie's restaurant had to offer.

Episode 4 - Terrace to Prince Rupert.
Here it is folks, the home stretch. It's been a wild ride. 600 plus miles and the crew has learned so much, not only about what the great northern British Columbia region has to offer but a bit more about themselves too. Some people might just think these types of trips are about riding the roads, trying new foods, and seeing new places, but in the end it’s about a lot more than that. The People you meet, the connections you foster but most importantly, the clarity you gain from spending hours and hours alone with yourself in that helmet. Hell that’s the greatest gift of all.
On the way to Prince Rupert the red Dyna gives Chris troubles again. The gang makes a pit stop to Terrace where they meet Clint, a skilled welder for a quick fix before some more mile crunching to the west coast.
Trains, the bay and mountains surround the crew with some of the best riding and views they couldn't ever even imagine. "Views for days" - Jodi Drew. It left most of the gang speechless.
A pit stop at North Pacific Cannery in Canada for some more culture, the crew learns how it used to operate, how people used to live and work all year round. They got to explore through some of the buildings and see the tools used to fix the machines that kept the place going for so many years.
The goal, arriving to Prince Rupert to watch the sunset on the pier, the farthest west you could possibly go on Route 16! The crew reflects on an amazing end to an epic road trip and share how grateful they are for the experience of a life time they shared with the ones they love.
