THE UGLIEST STOCK BIKE TURNED INTO THE DREAMSICLE
After building my 1958 Triumph "Aunt Tiny" I was pretty done with big projects for a while (note "for a while"). As it always seems to go, though, I got a hankerin' to create something big again.
The only problem? No bike.
For Christmas I had just gotten a Honda ct70 and absolutely loved it. I had no idea such a thing existed, and so it prompted me to do some personal research.
I came across the ugliest stock bike I think I have ever seen in my life, and of course decided I had to have one. This bike, as you can guess, was a 1970's ct90 step-through motorcycle. I still don't know why I wanted one, I just did.
As it turns out Dad had a friend with one who gave me a sweet deal. I rode it around as-is for a while, and decided that it pretty much sucked.
I don't have much experience, but to me it didn't handle well and was pretty uncomfortable (compared to the glorious ct70). It sat in the corner for a while until Pops basically told me if I wanted to build a bike, that was gonna be it.
I was actually pretty pissed, but in the end he taught me to see the potential in the remotest of locations. Anyways, to me building bikes is less of the bike itself and more of the process.
I had a pretty crappy experience in middle school, and that's when Pops decided to take me under his wing full-time. To me hanging around the shop kinda saved me, so I find nothing more valuable than spending time working on stuff with my dad, brother, and sometimes sister, too.
This bike was actually the first one I've bought, wrecked, and will ride on the road (I hope to get my license soon). I hope it lives on forever.
