The I-Beam Inline Springer Front Fork by Cannonball is made in Europe. Once upon a time when there weren’t any custom parts you could buy from your local shop, the VL fork was a very popular item because it made your Knuckle or Panhead bobber different from the next guy’s scooter. You also gained half an inch of length compared to 1936 and up Springer forks for improved ground clearance and a more stretched look. Now it’s time to revive those days of the golden 40’s and 50’s with the Cannonball version of H-D’s VL type fork. This is a reproduction of the 1936-1945 VL Springer, manufactured just like the original, which means I-beams and connecting braces are drop forged on a huge 10 meter forge hammer. This is the only procedure that guarantees these components stand up to the job.
A common problem with installing the OEM fork were the large fork stem and the handlebar mounting so the Cannonball fork has been modified. It features a 1” fork stem (1"-24 thread) and is designed for the use of Big Twin Timken bearings (Timken #44643 ) without any modifications. This makes installation a snap compared to the original counterpart.
The leg tops feature M20x1.5 internal threads at the upper end and accept riser adapter studs or plugs which are available separately, or accept the 1936 and up Springer inline handlebars or inline top clamps that have a center to center of 4-3/4" for the rear legs so you have other handlebar and riser mounting options.
The fork is black powder-coated, with parkerized or chrome springs and these springers are certified by the TUV in Europe. The I-Beam Inline Springer Front Fork by Cannonball can be installed on a multitude of Harley-Davidson and other brand motorcycles depending on your skill level , If you are not sure if you can complete the installation it would be best to consult a professional motorcycle shop
NOTE: You will need this specific axle for the Cannonball springer when using a wheel that has 3/4" wheel bearings. The spacers that come with that axle are for the W&W disc brake kit so custom axle spacers may also be needed along with the axle when installing the wheel.
NOTE: 1) The pivot point of the brake shackle on the backing plate or caliper bracket must not be positioned vertically above or in front of the wheel axle (driving direction). In this case the moving forces in your fork parallelogram will be reversed and the fork will rebound instead of being compressed when you apply the brake. This will generate very high forces to impact on your rigid fork leg with possible damage.
2) Caliper bracket or drum brake backing plate must float on the wheel axle. If not, the fork will rebound as well when applying the brake.
